One family from California, one family from Louisiana, coming together for a friends and family vacation in Phoenix. Four friends, two babies, the recipe for an amazing adventure. Ryan and I were going to catch up with good friends, Joe and Ashlee and the babies, Charlie and Henry were finally going to meet.
We knew our weekend was going to be memorable when we found ourselves spending way too much time searching for each other in baggage claim only to realize we had arrived in separate terminals. We finally met up at the car rental counter, and joked about the giant Ford Expedition XL we rented. Plenty of room we said………. every inch of the vehicle packed, husbands in the front seats, one wife and baby in second row, one wife and baby in third row. Our weekend was ready to begin.
We booked rooms in Phoenix, but we didn't actually spend much time in Phoenix. Our true adventure was to visit the Grand Canyon. Packed vehicle, friends and babies loaded, we were ready for our road trip to the Grand Canyon. Happy babies, crying babies, hungry babies, sleeping babies, adding excitement to the drive. We arrived at the Grand Canyon, checked in to our rooms, and made a plan for our visit. We were going to arrive at the Grand Canyon for sunrise.
"I have a feeling there is a big hole somewhere next to us." We arrived at dark, found the spot that was advertised to have wonderful sunrise views. The weather was perfect, 20 degrees, and super windy. We survived the cold and wind. I must admit, the sunrise was not the grandest. The best part was slowly watching the Grand Canyon illuminate. When you finally are able to see the big hole you have been standing next to, it is a bit scary. The major advantage of getting to the park at sunrise is avoiding large crowds, and seeing the Grand Canyon in the beautiful, clear morning light. Our chilled bones were warmed with a delicious cup of hot chocolate.
Back to Phoenix we went, time to relax before we said our goodbyes. As it always feels when you spend time with good friends, time seems to move too quickly, and your time together is never long enough. Our first friends and family vacation was a success. Until next time…
