The Month of May...

As is always the case, I have good intentions, to regularly blog, and keep everyone informed of the happenings in the Lang family. I was especially cruel with the lack of updates after the last blog post. Yes, we did move to Durango. Yes, we love living in Durango. But if only we knew then, what we know now. It was ugly, complicated, stressful, it was The Month of May....

May 2nd: Happy 2nd Birthday, Henry! We didn't throw him a party. The house was still on the market, Ryan was going to be out of the country, etc. etc. Don't worry, he's not going to remember not having a party. I did bake him an amazing birthday cake, which totally makes up for the lack of party.  It was my attempt to say, "I'm sorry, you're not getting a big, fancy party. But let's be honest, you're not going to remember anyway."

Mom guilt can make you do crazy things,
like sculpt a rock quarry scene for your child's birthday cake.

We celebrated his birthday the last week of April, before Ryan left.
I am thinking his 3rd birthday will be the same, no party, just a really cool cake.

The excavator and dump truck from his birthday cake are still his favorite toys.
Where we go, they go.

Continuing with the tradition from his first birthday, I woke him up on his birthday with a crib full of balloons.
At The Little Gym.

May 5th: Cinco de Mayo! We had a showing request for that afternoon. Our house in Colorado was also finished, and it was the day the home inspection was to be done. The morning began with our agent in Colorado calling to tell me the home inspector was not able to do the home inspection that day, he would have to return to inspect the house on Monday. No big deal, Monday it is. The afternoon, I packed up Macy and Henry, made sure the house was spotless, and left our home for the showing. Henry and I went to get an afternoon treat (coffee for me, cake pop for Henry) and pass the time while the people were in our house.

May 6th: Our agent in Louisiana called, told me to check my email. We had an OFFER on our house in Louisiana!!!! I wait as long as I possibly can to call Ryan (the offer came through during the middle of the night for Ryan's time). I made it to about 3 a.m. Ryan's time, then called to wake him. Celebrations, negotiations, counters, the contract was accepted and signed!!!!

May 8th: It's Monday. Colorado home inspection day. I get a call from our agent in Colorado, bad news. Something major (no need to disclose what it was) came up during the home inspection. I talked with our agent, talked with the home inspector, Ryan talked with both of them, we talked to various companies in Durango about what it would take it fix the problem,  and Ryan and I discussed. It was a chaotic couple days, trying to decide how to handle the situation, if the problem could be resolved. I was heartbroken, I had spent months picking out finishings, picking out everything for the house, I had decorating plans, I loved the house, we were moving in less than a month. Ultimately, we decided to terminate the contract. The movers were arriving to pack our home in 3 weeks, and we had no where to live. Our home in Louisiana was under contract, we had to move.

The next 10 days were a blur. Ryan and I were looking at homes in Durango online. Our agent in Colorado was video recording tours of the homes we were interested in. At the same time, Ryan and I were searching for rental properties, not an easy thing in Durango.

May 18th: I take Henry to the local, indoor trampoline park, FOR THE FIRST TIME. HE BREAKS HIS FOOT. The orthopedic surgeon said she would try a walking boot first, if Henry did not like the boot, she would have to put on a permanent cast. I knew I didn't want to have to deal with a cast, so I told Henry they were giving him a "Bob the Builder Boot." Success! He thought it was the greatest thing! They asked when I would like schedule his 4 week follow up appointment. I told them it wasn't going to happen, we were moving to Colorado in less than 2 weeks. We would need to find a doctor in Durango to do the follow up appointment, and give the all clear to not have to wear the boot any longer.
Leaving the doctor's office.
I told you the dump truck and excavator goes everywhere.

Broken foot, don't care. The boot was not slowing him down.

The month is only half way over, Henry turned 2, we sold the house in Louisiana, we have no house to move to in Durango, Ryan is still out of the country for work, and Henry has a broken foot. Got it. Just THE MONTH OF MAY...

May 19th: I get a phone call at about 10:30 p.m. It's a Durango number. I answer. On the phone is a man Ryan and I had contacted about a rental house. The man tells me that he and his wife have discussed all the applicants for their rental house, and had chosen to RENT THE HOUSE TO US!! I literally broke down in tears. With less than two weeks to moving day, and everything else that had gone wrong, we now had a place to live when we arrived in Durango.

Things were looking up. Ryan was going to be home in a week. Our home in Louisiana passed inspection. Everything was green light ahead. I started to organize and prepare for the movers to arrive. We were told the movers would not go in the attic, so everything in the attic had to be brought down to the garage. So, everyday, during Henry's nap, I went up and down the attic stairs, bringing down items. I was making good progress. It was going to be nice to have a majority of the stuff brought down before Ryan arrived home.

May 22nd: I am up in the attic, I see one of our sleeping bags has rolled off the camping gear pile, and is laying in the unfloored section of the attic. I lean to pick it up, my foot gets caught in some other piece of camping gear, I fall, luckily catch myself on the attic rafters, but not before my foot GOES THROUGH THE CEILING OF HENRY'S PLAYROOM! I should be thankful I did not injure myself (besides a massive, painful bruised leg). I should be thankful my entire body did not fall through the ceiling. All I could think about was the fact we were moving in 8 days, and we now had a hole in the ceiling of Henry's playroom. I called our builder, a very nice man. In tears (I feel like I have cried a lot in the month of May), I explain to him what happened, he schedules to have his drywall guy come and fix the hole.

Readers of this blog, small piece of advice, do not put your foot through the ceiling of your home, it's a pricey fix. But the man did a great job, you couldn't even tell where the hole was. And I will never go in an attic again.

May 24th: Ryan arrives home!!!!

May 30th and 31st: The movers pack our house and load everything on the truck. Expected delivery June 5th-9th.

June 1st: The Lang Family is loaded into Bear (the Jeep's name, in case you forgot). Our road trip to Durango begins!!

June had to be better than May.....

Stay tuned for the next blog post....
