Rome, Italy

I mentioned in my Night Walk post that we spent over 8 hours exploring Rome on our first day (after arriving in Rome at 1:00 p.m. from Naples).  You already read and viewed the pictures from our night walk, but you may wonder what we did up until sunset.

As is always the case, after checking in, we were hungry.  We strolled down the street our hotel was located on, Via Veneto to Harry's Bar.  Great location to sit back, enjoy some delicious food, and people watch.  We also took the time to browse through our guidebook and came up with a few destinations.

The restaurant was located across the street from the Villa Borghese Gardens, and I read they had bike rentals (!!!!) so we were off to rent bikes, and explore the lovely park within the city.  It was beautiful, with many areas to sit, read, run, have a picnic, anything, just a great location.  It was here (and maybe under the influence of the bike riding) that I began to fall in love with Rome.

After returning the bikes, we were off to the Cappuccin Crypt!  Very interesting sight.  We had heard about this on CNN International during a special documentary of crypts around the world.  I can honestly say I never imagined myself walking through rooms completely decorated with bones!  Maybe this should be added to our "seize the moment" list.  Great experience.

Our strolling took us through many different areas of Rome, and when the sunset, we were ready to begin our night walk.

Take a look at all the reasons why we fell in love with Rome.
And in case you don't like viewing things out of order or want to view our Night Walk pictures after our day pictures, here is the link to our Night Walk.

Next stop, the smallest independent state in the world....Vatican City!
